Casey Bolding

Closer to home, 2024, oil, plaster, flashe on canvas, 28 3/4 x 30 3/4 inches (73 x 78.1 cm)

A self-taught artist, Casey Bolding’s work explores entropy and the passing of time through an ontological lens. His tactile surfaces heighten the mystery of his Freudian compositions, which are rendered in sun-bleached tones. Growing up in Colorado, Bolding spent time painting suburban homes with his uncle, learning the many decorative painting techniques and surface treatments he exploits in his work. He frequently paints outdoors in abandoned buildings and alleyways.

Bolding (b. 1987, Denver, CO) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. His work has been included in exhibitions at Polina Berlin Gallery, New York, Shoot the Lobster, New York, Mamoth, London, and 1969 Gallery, New York.
